UPDATE: Razor is encouraging owners of their Hovertrax products that are not certified to UL 2272 (the updated battery certification) to call Razor toll-free at 86 from 8 am to 5 pm PT, Monday through Friday. Razor will send consumers a shipping carton and pre-paid return label to return their Hovertrax to Razor. Affected serial numbers beginning with 55X120-01, 55X120-02, 55X110-01, 55X110-02 or 55X230-01 are included in the recall.

Most commonly, hoverboards have two wheels arranged side-by-side connected by two gyroscopic pads on which the rider stands. If manufacturers are looking for another shortcut to sell product, perhaps one of them will take the handlebars off a bike and call it a land speeder. A hoverboard is a self-balancing scooter powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. I don't think the current iteration of the hoverboard is going to be the hot holiday gift two years in a row. More than 500,000 hoverboards are being recalled for fire concerns, following months of stories about exploding batteries causing property damage and injuries. Going forward, I'm sure their little scooters will have safer battery construction, especially after a recall. If you are going to buy another wheeled device that consumers insist on calling a hoverboard, buy it from a company that isn't on the recall list.Įven though Razor currently owns the original hoverboard patent it seems that it had little effect on product already in production. Trade Commission recently banned all hoverboards that aren't from Segway. I have no clue as to why you'd want to buy another hoverboard when this battery issue still isn't settled.
